GABBI BERKOW, MA, RD, CPT

My goal is to empower every individual with the nutrition and fitness education and experiences needed to achieve his/her goals, maximize results, optimize health, and create lifelong habits. I believe that nutrition and exercise go hand in hand, and I aim to help every client integrate the two in a way that delivers desired results and promotes a lasting happy and healthy lifestyle.

Gabbi Berkow is a Registered Dietitian, certified personal trainer,  Pilates instructor, and exercise physiologist who has a unique capacity to blend academic expertise with extensive passion and experience. Gabbi holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Columbia University and completed her nutrition training through New York University's renowned graduate program in Clinical Nutrition. Gabbi attended Goucher College on a full tuition merit scholarship, where she created an individualized major that integrated exercise science, nutrition, physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, psychology, and dance. She also completed her 600+ hour classical Pilates apparatus and mat certification through Romana’s Pilates, studying at the flagship studio True Pilates NY.

As a Registered Dietitian, Gabbi specializes in weight loss/weight management, body recomposition (building muscle / losing fat), sports nutrition (nutrition for active individuals and athletes), and eating disorders. She focuses on helping every individual reach his/her nutrition, health, and weight/ body composition goals in a holistic yet personalized way. Gabbi empowers each client with lifelong nutrition education that fits his/her unique preferences, needs, and lifestyle. She emphasizes sustainable, non-diet approaches that center on learning how to eat more of right foods and achieve lasting results. She does not believe in diets, quick fixes, deprivation, or one-size-fits-all methods; Gabbi works with you in a completely individualized way to develop personalized meal plans with plenty of options and providing nutrition knowledge that you can use for life. All of her nutrition recommendations are evidence-based, stemming from the latest research by leading experts in the field. Gabbi has helped clients lose weight, build muscle, increase energy, overcome emotional eating and cravings, recover from eating disorders/disordered eating, reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes, feel better overall, and learn to finally ditch the diet mentality. 

As an exercise physiologist, personal trainer, and Pilates instructor, Gabbi has worked in a variety of settings with clients spanning a diverse array of ages, fitness levels, and body types. She has also trained individuals with many different injuries and special needs. Gabbi utilizes her extensive studies of the human body and exercise science to design sound, individualized exercise programs that help clients achieve their goals while correcting muscular imbalances to minimize injury risk. She also helps clients develop exercise habits that promote lifelong fitness so that they can move well and move often for optimal health and vitality. Every workout with Gabbi is smartly designed, personalized, challenging, and fun!

A lifelong dancer, Gabbi also specializes dancer wellness, or the application of nutrition and exercise science principles to help dancers optimize their health and performance. Gabbi developed guidelines on nutrition and conditioning for dancers, strengthening exercises for dancers’ ankles and feet, and Pilates sequences for dancers, and has presented her research throughout the country.  

With her expertise in both nutrition and exercise, Gabbi provides holistic health coaching through an integrative blend of nutrition counseling, personal training, and individualized exercise prescription. Gabbi is excited to join the team of excellent Registered Dietitian Nutritionists at PranaSpirit Nutrition & Wellness, providing nutrition counseling and fitness services that give each client the education and tools needed to reach his/her goals and cultivate healthy habits for life.
